Tray-less dining represents a "Triple Bottom Line" initiative, meaning it makes sense in three areas crucial to corporate social responsibility: People, Planet and Preserving. All that is just a fancy way of saying that not using a tray can have a positive impact socially, environmentally and economically at your school.
In the People/Social Area:
Tray-less dining provides education and awareness while reinforcing healthy eating habits - you and your fellow students are able to learn about your impact by participating in the tray-less program.
In the Planet/Environmental Area:
Tray-less dining shrinks your campus' environmental footprint by reducing waste, conserving natural resources (the energy and water to clean the trays) and avoiding the introduction of polluting detergents, rinse and drying agents into the water table.
In the Preserving/ Economic Area:
Tray-less dining is also helps cut costs for things like detergents, water/energy resources and the trays themselves.
Over 250 ARAMARK campus partners have already removed trays from their residential dining locations in an effort to reduce food waste and conserve water and energy. And a recent study conducted by ARAMARK found that food waste was reduced by 25 to 30 percent per person when trays were removed from dining facilities.
