ARAMARK Supports Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Philadelphia

On January 19th, Nearly 100 ARAMARK employees, friends and family participated in the annual Martin Luther King Day of Service event at Temple University's Liacorous Center. And thanks to their time and hard work, thousands of lives across Philadelphia were enriched.

The city-wide, ARAMARK-supported events included a clothes-sorting project to benefit local homeless organizations and a healthy cooking demonstration by ARAMARK chefs from the Steinberg Conference Center as part of the day's health and wellness fair.

Other volunteer projects at Temple included painting inspirational murals, building an environmentally friendly playground and distributing literacy and civic engagement materials.

More than 30 ARAMARK volunteers also participated at a City Year Greater Philadelphia service project at Northeast Philadelphia's Edmunds Elementary school, where they joined more than 100 City Year corps members and others to help refurbish the school. The team built and painted 12 benches for the library, painted walls and murals in the cafeteria and gym.

"My three children and I walked away from that event truly feeling like we made a difference," said Theresa Pollard, Talent Acquisition Manager, Business & Industry Group. "This event allowed us to meet some of the family goals that we set such as providing service to others, meeting great new people, and making a difference."

ARAMARK was also a sponsor of the event that brought an estimated 3,000 volunteers at service projects across Philadelphia region. Since 1996, some 400,000 volunteers across the greater Philadelphia area have celebrated Dr. King's legacy by turning community concerns into volunteer service and citizen action on King Day and throughout the year. Each year, the annual Greater Philadelphia King Day of Service has been the largest King Day event in the nation.
