No Slowing Down for Tallahassee's 2007 Business Volunteer of the Year

After being named Tallahassee's Business Volunteer of the Year for their philanthropic work done in 2007, ARAMARK at Florida State didn't sit back and relax after being named Tallahassee's Business Volunteer of the Year for their philanthropic work in 2007. Instead, they re-dedicated themlseves to giving back to their community.

AMARARK at Florida State has been a major sponsor for Kids Incorporated of the Big Bend since its beginnings in April of 2007. This year, they continued their sponsorship and even co-hosted the 3rd annual Kidsfest, a fundraiser dedicated to celebrating childhood while raising money for the local Kids Incorporated. In 2008, with the help of 129 ARAMARK volunteers, we raised $12,000, $5,900 of which resulted directly from the sales of our donated food. They hope to exceed these numbers in 2009.

ARAMARK also came together to host the three week Kids Incorporated Holiday Happiness event. Holiday Happiness is a gift drive that provides eight families with items from their wish lists. Overall, ARAMARK and its Florida State partners raised over $4,500 worth of gifts for families going through difficult times.

During the Spring of 2008, ARAMARK at Florida State helped sponsor the campus Relay for Life, which benefits the American Cancer Society. Our own catering manager, Mike Bope, chaired the event and coordinated the all night pledge against fighting cancer. ARAMARK gladly supported this fundraiser by donating an assortment of food items that were enjoyed by the volunteer participants. ARAMARK will continue to support the Relay for Life this year.

ARAMARK at Florida State also teamed with Second Harvest of the Big Bend to host an internal canned food drive competition to supply nonperishable goods to families in need. Over 2,000 pounds of canned food were collected in this noble effort.

But the charitable work didn't stop there. ARAMARK and Florida State also provided meals for 830 volunteer dancers participating in Dance Marathon, Florida State's largest philanthropic effort. Dancers cut the rug for 32 hours, raising over $375,000 for the Children's Miracle Network.

ARAMARK at Florida State truly believes that giving back to the local community is vital in order to achieve our corporate goal of being able to thrive. It is this notion that challenges them to strive every day to enrich lives in the Tallahassee community.
