Below is a letter received on behalf of Scott Sieg'l, Senior District Manager in the Midwest. The writer, the Vice President of the Student Senate at Lake Forest University, thanks ARAMARK for the exceptional service.
December 14, 2009
Scott,
I was given your email by Jason Micenko, the Man at the Helm here at Lake Forest College's food service operations. I think it is important that his hard work be recognized as I have had the opportunity to work closely with him and James Kerrigan (Michael Bennett for a while as well) and have had great experiences.
As Vice President to student government, I was brought into a student government that cares about what their constituents eat. Food Committee was setup to work with Aramark to make changes or augment food service here, its an open committee that has served to make recomendations and changes that are within the realm of possibility for a college cafeteria. Whatever (reasonable) ideas we came up with, the only answer Jason and his staff have ever given is "thats a great idea, well see what we can do". This starts with things as little as spinach in the morning omelette line and grilled chicken in the salad bar, and it grows to building a diverse number of options for those with lifestyle focused diets such as vegetarians and gluten free.
While the hardwork of a food service provider is expected, the Aramark staff here has gone beyond the necessary requirements of "making people happy and giving them good food". Last year Student Government devised a plan to give our organization a little more prestige. The idea behind Student Senator lunches was that you get a little bit of recognition for the hard work you do, and you get to pick a meal for the day of your birthday. When the idea was hatched it sounded a little bit much to ask. Sure enough, Jason and his staff made it happen. While this may seem not - so - thrilling, you have to understand that these senator meals aren't just mashed potatoes, gravy and some french fries. Were talking southern chicken salad, pulled pork sandwiches, pork tostadas, sliders with bacon, mushroom and chipotle mayo, made to order pizza and of course, the famously daunting "fatty patty melt". To the student body that sounds a little bit like this... "whoah, all my life I have heard how awful college food is, and now I can choose between this kind of stuff? are you kidding me?"
It doesn't end there, anytime I have received a complaint or concern (cant make everyone happy all the time), we as students are encouraged to contact Aramark with the problem so it can be resolved immediately. On a number of occasions Aramark staff have gone out of their way to address a students issue during the rush hour of lunch, that is service.
I could go on but this would get repetitive. Aramark service here has been outstanding, Jason Micenko and his management staff are all deserving of recognition for continuously going out of their way to make sure the right food is being served the right way. the cafeteria has become a highlight on the college campus tour for prospective students, and let me tell you, those are bragging rights.
Happy Holidays.
